Cycling the Green Coast

8 Days cycling along the North Coast of Spain

Description

This is a cycling tour along the wild green coast, one of the best well preserved coastlines in Spain. This coast enjoys beautiful landscapes with cliffs and sandy beaches, a rich tradicional gastronomy, historic towns and little fishing villages like Santander, Ribadesella, San Vicente de la Barquera or Gijón.

We will cycle from Santander to Gijón through small country roads with spectacular views and you will stay at the most iconic towns along the coast.

 

  • Day: 1 - Arrival to Santander

    Join the group in Santander. This city was developed during the Middle Age as an important seaport. We will have time to visit the city and to have a walk along "El Sardinero" beach.

  • Day: 2 - Santander - Santillana del Mar (53 Km)

    We ride out of the city into the countryside along the coast. Tonight we stay in Santillana del Mar, a very special medieval town full of charm with old stone houses and cobblestone streets.

  • Day: 3 - Santillana del Mar - San Vicente de la Barquera (43 Km)

    Today we ride near the famous Altamira caves that were beautifully painted thousands of years ago. A highlight of the day is to visit the town of comillas with its old university, lovely beaches and many restaurants. The ride ends at San Vicente de la Barquera, a wonderful fishing town where we can enjoy fresh fish and seafood.

  • Day: 4 - San Vicente de la Barquera - Llanes (56 Km)

    Today we cycle all the way by small roads enjoying the views of beautiful beaches. We will arrive to Llanes, a beautiful medieval town full of old palaces that were build by the indianos when they came back from America after making money in the plantations in the early 19th century.

  • Day: 5 - Llanes - Ribadesella (52 km)

    From Llanes to Ribadesella we will have the chance to enjoy beautiful nature. We will stay at Ribadesella a nice town known for the international descent of the river Sella, one of the largest canoeing races in the world that gather thousands of participants.

  • Day: 6 - Ribadesella - Villaviciosa (54 km)

    Today we ride through an area famous for the production of natural cider. Locals pour the cider straight from the bottle with great skill and you will be able to have a go. More beautiful sand beaches and landscapes will take us to Villaviciosa.

  • Day: 7 - Villaviciosa - Gijón (52 km)

    Our last ride take us to Gijón, a vibrant small city considered the capital of the Green Coast. Our hotel overlooking the ocean is a perfect base for the last night.

  • Day: 8 - Return

    The tour ends after breakfast. It's possible to book extra nights in Gijón or Santander.
